Auckland wool down
PA Auckland Fleece, r sorer second shear and lambs, and all oddments were in buyers’ favour at the Auckland wool sale yesterday. Good secondshear was up to 2.5 per cent cheaper on Christchurch rates but good lambs were unchanged. . The catalogue comprised 22,698 bales of which 500 were scoured. A further 3250 bales were offered on separation from Napier.About 58 per cent of the catalogue was autumn sec-ond-shear ewe wool, with 14 per cent full-length fleece. Lambs comprised 13 per cent of the offering and the
balance was 13 per cent clothing oddments and 2 per cent combing oddments. Because of the wet season and flush of feed, yields averaged 85 per cent, which is 2 to 3 per cent higher than the average for April. Competition came mainly from the New Zealand Wool Board, which bid on 86 per cent of the offering and bought 44 per cent. The balance was bought for delivery to Eastern Europe, the Continent, the Middle East, and Japan. The adjusted weighted average selling price was 251.73 c a kilogram, according to the Wool Board.- Neither retention nor supplementation was needed.
