WSI9R BILATERAL AID PROGRAMME (FIJI) DAIRY ADVISER THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS is seeking applications for the position of Dairy Adviser to the Fiji Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, under the New Zealand Bilateral Aid Programme. The main responsibiilty of the Dairy Adviser would be to assess the local situation and needs in order to formulate and implement a programme for a planned development of the dairy industry in Fiji in its entirety, with emphasis on milk production, including special projects such as the establishment of milk collection centres. Other responsibilities within the over-all objective include: (i) Provision of such advice and informal training as are required by extension workers and farmers on calf rearing, stock breeding, grazing and milk management, pasture improvement, use of machinery, quality control of milk and farm budgeting so as to improve production, efficiency and profitability of existing and new farms; (ii) Liaison with the appropirate Government departments and non-government organisations in the formulation and implementation of the dairy development work programe; (iii) Co-ordination with dairy specialists, field extension workers and other organisations, in the development and improvement of infrastructure (roads, water supply land drainage) and the construction of small-scale milk collection centres. The Dairy Adviser would be based in Suva and directly responsible to the Assistant Director of Animal Health and Production of Fiji Miniestry of Agriculture and Fisheries. Applicants would be expected to possess a degree in agricultural science. Post-graduate experience in extension work especially among dairy farmers, is essential, and the ability to supervise staff would be an advantage. The appointment will be for a period of two years. Salary will be negotiable with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and location and child allowances (where applicable) are payable. Housing will be provided by the Fiji Government.
