Factory to close
PA Dunedin The foundry of A. and T. Burt, Ltd, in Dunedin ; will close at the end of June, making 26 workers redundant. Mr M. B. Hargreaves, the secretary of the Engineers’ Union in Otago, said the four unions involved — engineers, moulders, clerical workers, and boilermakers —- were
officially told of the closing on Wednesday.
• He said cpmpany officials said the foundry had be- ; come uneconomic. They had offered a redundancy . scheme to the unions, The company’s general manager, Mr .D. Davies, of i Wellington, said that none of A. and T. Burt’s other branches in the South Island would be affected.
