Shearing and wool handling

The annual learners’ shearing class for South Westland will be held in Ferguson’s shearing shed, Ferguson’s Bush near Ross, between Monday and Friday of next week.

lan Rutherford, the New Zealand Wool Board’s senior shearing instructor for the South Island, has agreed to allow the Agricultural Training Council to organise an afternoon on wool handling skills for sheep farmers, their workers and families. It will start at 1 p.m. next Wednesday. The chief tutor will be Mr Bryan Bradley, the wool production officer with the Wool

Board, and he will be speaking about preparing the clip so as to maximise profits when the wool is sold. The advantage of having Mr Bradley there while Mr Rutherford’s learners are also there is that they can keep up a good supply of fleeces for Mr Bradley to use in his demonstrations.. Two wool brokers will also be in attendance — Mr G. Trebilcock, of Dalgetys, and Mr D. Studholme, of WNMA. They will join Mr Bradley in talking about the presentation of the clip, and will also explain the fast developing system of “sale by sample.”
