LOWER TODAY IN REAL TERMS
Since 1962-63 in real terms securing charges had dropped by 30 per cent, and in the same sort of time span wool prices had declined by about 10 per cent, Mr A. Shadwell, group managing director of the Mair group of companies, said at the opening of the new scouring complex at Kaputone Wool Scour, Ltd, at Belfast this week. Mr Shadwell made the comparison after noting
that it had been 19 years since Mairs had taken over the scour. The new scouring complex, he said represented another step after about 85 years of scouring on the site. The chairman of the Wool Board, Mr J. Clarke, in painting a very bright future for the industry m New Zealand, noted that it had managed to keep its costs among the lowest in the world.
