Hurry-up today on S.A. tour?
PA Wellington The New Zealand Rugby Football Union may be urged to hasten the sending of an invitation for a South African rugby team to tour New Zealand in 1981 at its annual general meeting today. The N.Z.R.F.U. chairman, Mr C. A. (Ces) Blazey, has described the issuing Qf an invitation to the South Rugby Board as “non-ur-gent,” but that view is not shared by some affiliate unions. The N.Z.R.F.U. presidentelect and Marlborough chair-
man, Mr J. G. (Jim) Fraser, said recently that rugby unions throughout New Zealand were badly in need of a financial boost, which a visit by a Springbok side would invariably produce. He was quoted as saying that his union would raise the invitation issue in general business at the meeting, and reaction to Marlborough’s position has generally been favourable. -
If enough pressure can be mounted at today’s meeting the incoming council may be compelled to seriously consider the issuing of an in-* viiation to the S.A.R.B.
