Bad water blamed on U.S.
NZPA-Reuter Teheran A Teheran newspaper has blamed the deaths of 85 cows on opponents of the Iranian revolution and on “United States agents.” The Muslim daily, “Jomhori Islami,” said water used by a cattle company near Teheran had been poisoned, and in addition to the dead cows, 178 others were sick and “waiting for death.” It did not say when the incident occurred, but reported that a Revolutionary Guard had been sent to the Company to investigate. The newspaper quoted the Guard as saying he was not surprised that the water had i been poisoned, because Iran [needed meat badly and “anti-revolutionary elements land U.S. agents have decided ito strike a blow to our revolution by such acts.” Since American hostages were seized in the United States Embassy in Teheran on November 4, Iranian officials often have blamed the United States for their domestic problems, including ’battles with Iranian minorjities and the border dispute Iwith neighbouring Iraq.
