Shooting at checkpoint
NZPA-Reuter Belfast A woman was shbt dead at a British Army' checkpoint at Strabane, County Tyrone, yesterday.
She was a rear-seat passenger in a car crossing the liffrod Bridge, linking Strabane with the Irish Republic. The Royal Ulster Constabulary has said the woman, from Strabane, was struck by a single shot which passed through the vehicle’s windscreen. -
It whs discharged by a soldier manning the checkpoint, but the spokesman could not say whether the gun had gone off accidentally. The R.U.C. was investigating the incident.
