Kiwifruit conference in California
By JOHN HUTCHISON San Francisco
New Zealand growing methods will be studied when the rapidly expanding California kiwifruit industry holds its eighth annual cultural practices and equipment show at Gridley, California, next month. Comparisons of California and New Zealand pruning techniques will be demonstrated, and an “armchair tour” of New Zealand kiwifruit Orchards
will be presented in a slide show assembled from
photographs made by Californian gorwers who have visited New Zealand. The exhibits will include cultivating machinery, trellising components, irrigation and refrigeration equipment, and kiwifruit products. Tours will be conducted through kiwi plantings in the area, about 240 km north-east of San Francisco. Kiwifruit are leafing now, and will be in bloom then.
