Anti-Springbok tour protest
About 150 people attended [a rally in Christchurch on [Friday evening to protest I against the proposed Springbok rugby tour of New Zea-, land next year.' Organised by the Christ-, church branch of the Halt All Racist Tours orgahisation, the rally began in Cathedral Square at 8.15 p.m. with anti-apartheid songs and a street theatre, the protesters then marched with placards and banners to the buildings of the Canterbury Rugby Union in Manchester Street to listen to a
[speech by one of the rally Mr R. Harrison. Similar rallies were held in other New Zealand centres on Friday evening. in Wellington, more than 50 protesters gathered outside the New Zealand Rugby, Union’s headquarters on Friday. They had hoped that to hold their protset while the annual meeting of the union was being held but confusion over the date meant they were almost a week early. _________
