Auckland, proved.; he was in a class of his ' own- in the South Pacific and National Javelin yachting championships .which finished at Npaier on Saturday ' Coleman, ;-the defending champion in both events, had : added the 1980 title to his record, before the seventh and final race. 'He became the only holder of consecutive championships with his third win of the week that morning. With Coleman having already clinched the title,v the main interest in the’ closing run was on the battle for second between Hayward (Bullet') and McGill. (Enthusiasm). ■ $ j/. McGill, the South. (fourth respectively) to equal his points tally, of 39.4, but Hayward was judged .runnerup by virtue of his first placing in the second race. McGill’s best efforts were three seconds. . ; Coleman’s record was; particularly impressive- — a pair of seconds .going with his string of wins- in his best six races.'He-dropped-a fourth ,in * the second race from.-his total, and ,won the series with a- score ?of .j six points.
