Contrition in the Caribbean?

NZPA-Reuter

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. The West Indies Cricket Board of Control (W.1.C.8.C.) and the West Indian captain, Clive Lloyd, have apologised to the New Zealand Cricket Council for controversial incidents during the recent test series in New Zealand, according to a report in Port-of-Spain on Saturday. The “Trinidad Express” newspaper quoted a source close to the W.1.C.8.C. annual general meeting as saying that both Lloyd and the board had sent letters of apology to New Zealand.

The West Indies, who lost the three-test series

0-1, were associated with several incidents over the standard of New Zealand umpiring. When the report was referred to Mr R. A. Vance, the chairman of the New Zealand Cricket Board of Control, he said that it was interesting to hear what the Trinidad press had to say about the apologies sent by the W.1.C.8.C. and Lloyd, receipt of which was still awaited. “But this, is a matter which may well reach the International Cricket Conference,” said Mr Vance. “My attitude has to be to wait for some official communication from the W.1.C.8.C.”
