Stadium cost $1M
The final cost of the Christchurch City Council’s Pioneer ’Sports Stadium in Centennial Park, Spreydon, is $1,037,233, confirming predictions made four years ago that it would cost much more than originally estimated. In 1976, a cost ceiling of $750,000 was put on the stadium. The final cost is about 33 per cent higher than that. The final amount paid to the contractor, C. S. Lunev, Ltd, will be $823,761. Final architect fees paid to Austin and Warren will be $63,559. City Council funds gained from subdivisions — money paid in lieu of reserve land contributions —paid for $359,339 of the stadium, with another $334,000 from land sales. The Pioneer Sports Trust gave $243,893 to the stadium, and another • $lOO,OOO came from a Government grant.
