TVNZ sales buoyant
PA Wellington Television New Zealand’s latest audience and revenue figures should dispel any doubt about the reorganised broadcasting system, said-the chairman of the Broadcasting Corporation,- (Mr - law . Cross) yesterday. ?? “In the first month .confirmed sales of advertising over both channels show a spectacular: increase of almost 29 per cent above April last year,”. Mr Cross said. “If this trend is maintained, and the indicators are excellent, we will be able at least to maintain and possibly accelerate the extension of coverage to those areas which do not now get TV2
“We are on schedule to reach the West’ Coast of the South Island and Central Otago by the first quarter of next year, and we may' be able to set earlier target dates for TV2 in - Northland,” he said. . .
Referring, to criticisms , of the regional news programmes by Labour’s spokesman on broadcasting (Mr J. J. Terris) Mr Cross said that the ratings of the first week’s programmes showed that they were already amongst the most popular and attracted a strong following. ; In ; future this would probably rate them- second only to the 6.30 p.m. news among local productions, he said.,
