C.N.G. cylinder faulty?
PA Auckland The Department of Labour has asked C.N.G. filling stations not to fill Italian-made I.M.Z. cylinders in cars, while it does safety checks. The cylinders are imported by an Auckland nrr. , D. McL. Wallace, Ltd, which has agreed to the suspension. However, Mr John McCauliffe, the company’s compressed gases manager, said that it
would bring its own experts from Italy to study the case. The Department of Labour request came after it was told that the I.M.Z. cylinder may be faulty. Mr Graham Collins, the department's supervising inspector of explosives, said: ‘‘Our initial findings have shown some minor faults. “As a precautionary measure we have asked
filling stations not to fill this type of cylinder.” D.S.I.R. experts will check the cylinders and make a report to Mr Collins. Mr McCauliffe said: “Our Italian principals question the validity of the report, and we expect' engineering experts in . New Zealand within the next few days. . “All cylinders imported into New Zealand have been, subjected to Lloyd’s inspections and testing, f.nd serially numbered and certified accordingly. “We have already complied with the department’s request.” Mr McCauliffe said that his company had been under constant attack over its Italian equipment since ■ C.N.G. was introduced to New Zealand on a big scale. He hopes that the latest checks will lay all criticisms to rest.
