Farmers ask for shipping policy review

PA Wellington Federated Farmers had asked the New Zealand Producer Boards to review their shipping policies, said the acting president of Federated Farmers (Mr R. Storey) yesterday. Mr Storey said that a resolution passed at the last meeting of the federation’s Dominion council asked the boards to review, their policy of exclusive contracts with the conference shipping lines. This should bs done with a view to .tendering a representative - cross-section of not less than 20 per cent of their freight on the open market, Mr Storey said. - “This resolution is in line with the federation’s Over-all policy calling for more freedom of competition. However, it must be made clear that we are not demanding that boards tender outside the existing arrangements,” Mr Storey said. The federation was not specifying that ABC Lines be used and could fust as well be referring to the conference lines.
