Bhutto party five on killing-related counts

NZPA-Reuter Islamabad Five former officials of the Pakistan People’s Party of the executed' former Prime Minister, Zulfikar Alj Bhutto, have been arrested in connection with two dozen killings at a public meeting in 1973 organised by parties opposed to Bhutto.

Charged with organising shooting at the meeting on March 23, 1973, are’Hassam Mir, a former Minister for Establishment and Communications in Mr Bhut.io’s cabinet; Abdul Khalid,; a former Cabinet Minister, ip Punjab Province; Habib Ahmed, a former Parliamentary secretary in the National Assem« bly; and two local offied

holders of the now-banned P.P.P.

The alleged killers in the shooting in the Liaguat Gardens in Rawalpindi included! both P.P.P. supporters and members of the now-dis-banded para-military Federal Security Force, which wasi directly commanded bw Bhutto.

More arrests on charges of involvement in the killings are expected, the police say.

Bhutto had suppressed action on the case until July*! 1977, when he was deposed by the military. In April, 1979, he was hanged on charges of conspiring in, planning, and. ordering the killing of sf political opponent in 1974.
