Rare tie in archery
The South Island archery championships ended in Ashburton on Monday with the clout events being decided.
The men’s .title resulted in a rare tie, after a count-back, between Dave Henshaw (Christchurch) and lan Powley (Dunedin). Both finished with 272. Third was Roy Barret of Ashburton, with 258.
Joyce Cattermole (Christchurch) beat Ann Shurrock (Ashburton) to win the women’s event, 255 to 233, with Pam Gordon (Dunedin) third with 217.

hill (Dunedin) 226, 1; Chris McMullan (Christchurch) 223,! 2; Jens Rekker (Dunedin)’ 209, 3.
Ann Shurrock won the aggregate cup. The earlier field events 5 were won by favourites Dave McAuley (Christchurch) and Mrs Shurrock. They scored 451 and 272 respectively. McAuley was more than 60 points clear of his competition in that discipline. Christchurch won the team’s flight with 1092, from Ashburton (961) and Dunedin (753).
