Cosmonaut not welcome
PA Wellington The Government had refused a visa to a Soviet cosmonaut, LieutenantGeneral Vladimir Shatalov, said the Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) yesterday. General Shatalov (left) a crew member in three Soyuz expeditions and an associate of the late Yuri Gagarin, was to have visited New Zealand as the guest of the New ZealandU.S,S.R. Society.
He has also been refused a visa to visit Australia. Mr Muldoon did not say why the visa had been refused, but it is believed that the action is another show of disapproval of the Soviet intervention in Afghanistan.
