Auckland to Tokyo flights in August
PA Auckland Air New Zealand announced yesterday that it would begin its new services between Japan and Auckland on August 1.
The weekly flight will be run by a DCB aircraft The stopover will be Nandi, Fiji. The airline’s chief executive (Mr M. R. Davis) said this was the first extension of the airline’s network for 14 years and a major step for New Zealand.
The least expensive return flight to Tokyo for New
Zealanders will be a $846 tour fare, which will be sold by both Air New Zealand and Japan Air Lines. Japan Air Lines will begin its service to Auckland on July 4 and will fly two services a week. Other return fares will be economy, $1814; and firstclass, $2644. The early payment fare will vary between' peak and off-peak seasons. The Air New Zealand beginning flight date is about three months earlier than originally proposed, but the move to originate the services has been under dis-i
cussion for more than five years. The new service will open up a new low fare to Britain and Europe. A Tokyo-Lon-don return excursion fare will cost between $BOO and $9OO, enabling a round trip to Europe for $l6OO to $l7OO.
An 8 per cent air fare rise 'approved several weeks ago between New Zealand and the United States will be introduced from April 22. The fuel-related increase applies to all airlines, but only affects north-bound flights lout of New Zealand.
