Telethon grants
More than $1 million, has been distributed so far by the International Year of the Child Telethon Trust, according to. the trust’s executive officer (Mrs "L. Geursen). In the latest list of beneficiaries, World Vision received the biggest amount, $25,000, to support schools in Melanesia. The Foundation for the Blind received $20,000 to support a. children’s communications project and Youth, for, Christ received $20,000 to support youth-guidance work.
Other national. beneficiaries were Swimming for the Handicapped, $650; Society for Music Therapy, to train therapists, $5000; Boys Brigade. $5000; Play and Creativity, national committee, $12,000; Widows and Widowers’. Association, $1000; Child Cancer Foundation, $3000; Maori Women’s Welfare League, $15,000; Child and Health National Committee, for research on child restraints in car?, $10,000; Western Samoa
pre-Schoo! Association, $lO,OOO. Grants fo Nelson and Marlborough groups: Picton Playcentre, $100; Nelson District Parents' Centre, $250; Maitai Baptist Camp, $250. The Westport I.Y.C. Committee was. granted $5OO to help to establish the Westport Parents’ Centre. Grants to Canterbury groups: 6A Inc, $500; Educational Child Care Centre, $500; Addington Playgroup, $100; Society for the Protection of Home and Family. $500: Hagley High School Pre-School, $500; Christchurch Riding for the Disabled, $1000; Soroptimist Club of Ashburton, $500; Hanmer Springs Ratepayers’; Association, $200; Timaru Intermediate School Committee, $100: Anglican Social Services, $500; . Christian Family Movement, $2000; Christchurch School of Instrumental Music, $5000; SPELD Canterbury,. $300; Kaiapoi Social Services Centre, $1000;. Freeville Primary School Committee, $500.'
