Softball team loses

NZPA Sydney The New Zealand women’s softball team got off to a bad start when it lost to the San Diego Trendsetters, 1-2, in a long, evenly fought match at the “Mini World Cup” at Brisbane yesterday.

The match went for eleven innings and lasted moire than two-and-a-half hours before the American women, the top team in California and one of the best in the United States, gained the advantage. No runs were scored until the eleventh innings when Debbie Leonidas, of Wellington crossed the home plate after a safe bunt by Naomi Shaw (Hutt Valley). : ‘

However, the San Diegd team came back and got twd across to give it the match.
