Commentators to boost auction

BOYLE Peter Kelly, Keith Haub, and Rob Fielder will give their combined skills as auctioneers and racing commentators on the second day of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s Easter meeting next Wednesday. ■ They have been invited to auction services to nine stallions from the Riccarton birdcage and will share race commentaries on that programme with Reon Murtha. ; Proceeds from the -auction will go into a special’race the Canterbury Jockey Club plans to introduce at its 1981 summer meeting. With . the club’s contribution as well, it is planned to have a restricted race for fillies and mares with at least $12,5,00 next February. ‘ ? Alvaro, from Fisher Farm at Cambridge, is one of six North Island Stallions available. Alvaro is the sire of this year’s Wellington Cup win- • ner, Cubacade. Other North Island stallions are Brauner (West Dei;-, by Stud), Catus s (Ardsley Stud, (Masterton),-Lonesome Dude,- Alton Lodge - Te ; Kauwhata) Otehi Bay (Sovereign Lodge, Ohau), and Sea Anchor (Haunui Farm, Auck- 1 land). r ); Sea Anchor had .15 repre-» sentatives sold at the national sales in January at an average of $13,017. South Island stallions whose services have been donated, for the ..Riccarton auction are Beaufort Sea (Inglewood Stud, .
