Two wins for stock of Jack Chance

Superior Chance and Inflation, both sons of the Oamaru-based stallion, Jack Chance, combined successfully with Fair Alda in the first course treble at Addington Raceway on Saturday night. The combination returned the holders of three tickets $2946.15 each. Fair Alda, at odds exceeding 43-to-one, led for the last 1200 m for a decisive victory in the Intermediate Handicap. It was her second win this season —the other had been at Ashburton last September —for her Greenpark owners, Tom and Barry Clark.

Fair Alda was untroubled to beat Kate’s Return, one of the slowest beginners, by a length and a quarter, with Speedy Tuft battling into third a similar margin back. Maudey, another slow off the mark, was a close fourth and Game Way led in the others. Superior Chance improved a very good record for his Weedons owner-trainer, Tom Leitch, when he overcame a slow start to beat his rivals hands down in the Electric Stakes.

Bill Denton sent Superior Chance around the field to take up the chase after Reuben James-on the home turn and soon after straightening up he cleared away from the pacemaker to win by three and a half lengths.

Reuben James was in no fear of losing second. He held that place by two lengths from Nandina Maestro, which had tracked him throughout. Golda Meir battled on from mid-field for fourth but was in another small gap. Inflation, for which Henry Skinner was engaged the previous Saturday night after the three-year?old’s Marshland trainer. John Vincent, had been stood down ft

for a couple of weeks, led from end to end for a decisive victory in a slow-run Second Three-year-old Stakes* Skinner, a good judge of pace at any time, sprinted Inflation into the early lead, slowed them all to a jog through the middle stages then allowed him to sprint away again as they made

the home turn and he cleared away to beat the favourite, Dreamy Dragon, by three lengths. Dreamy Dragon, which had tracked the winner throughout, lasted for second by a head from Dundas and Starshine, which the camera could not separate, and Johnny Balbo was right up fifth.
