Five hurt in collision
A taxi-driver and his two passengers were taken to the Christchurch Hospital after the taxi and a car had collided at the intersection of Colombo Street and Moorhouse Avenue just before 6 p.m, yesterday. The car careered into a pole after the accident, but the two male occupants suffered only minor head injuries.
The taxi-driver and his passengers, a man and a woman, also suffered head injuries. Two ambulances were called to take the five victims to hospital. None was seriously injured. Their names were not available last evening. Firemen washed away spilled petrol which flowed over the road after the crash.
A West Melton woman who suffered severe head injuries when two cars collided on the West Coast Road on Tuesday evening is still seriously ill in the intensivecare unit at the Christchurch Hospital. She is Phyllis Mary Johnston, aged 29, of Halketts Road, who was trapped in the wreckage for half an hour after the accident, which occurred at 7.10 p.m.
