N.Z. naval rating dies in Hawaii
PA ‘ Wellington A post-mortem examination will be held into the death in Hawaii of a New Zealand naval rating at the week-end, according ot a Navy spokesman in Wellington.
Gary Outram, aged 20 a mechanic, of Westport, from H.M.N.Z.S. Canterbury, died in hospital after suffering a broken ankle ashore, said the Navy public relations officer (Wing Commander G. Clarke). He said he did not know how Mr Outram suffered the broken ankle in Honolulu. He was brought to the ship from ashore with an ankle broken and then transferred to hospital, were he died. An apparent cause of death was not known at this stage.
| Mr Outram’s parents have been flown to Hawaii by the Navy. The frigate is visiting Hawaii during exercises in the area.
