Saturation TV coverage
From G. K. YULE Sydney Tomorrow night’s InterDominion Championship Grand Final will have the biggest media coverage of any trotting race ever run in New Zealand or Australia. More than 100 television stations and about 150 radio stations will televise and broadcast the event live. The Australian Broadcasting Commission wiD show live the whole event through all of its 114 stations throughout Australia and it will be “beamed” direct to New Zealand. The 10 horses contesting the final have between them won more than 400 races and close to $2.5M in prize money. The field includes Pure Steel, the toughest stayer to have raced in Autralia, Lord Module, the fastest pacer outside the United States, and Paleface Adios, with
103 wins, the most popular horse to have raced at Harold Park. The records of the ten contenders are:— Lehigh Lad: 54 starts, 27 wins, 14 placings and $71,335. Locarno: 55 starts, 16 wins, 24 placings, $116,557. Koala King: 140 starts, 51 wins, 53 placings, $340,290. Lord Module: 72 starts, 25 wins, 35 placings, $221,995. Pure Steel: 94 starts, 55 wins, 24 placings, $731,745. Paleface Adios: 217 starts. 103 wins, 60 placings, $516,789. Lea Sands: 90 starts, 35 wins, 31 placings, $98,143.
Frosty Imp: 39 starts, 23 wins, nine placings, $101,440. Lone Boy: 103 starts, 29 wins, 32 placings, $91,420. Margaret Shannon: 85 starts. 36 wins, 34 placings, $86,062.
