Pero defending title
Mike Pero, of Christchurch, is certain to make a special effort to defend his New Zealand lightweight grand prix title at Ruapuna Park on Easter Sunday. He is trailing Paul McLachlan, also of Christchurch, In the 250 road series title chase and can now have little hope of outright victory. However, a second win in the New Zealand grand
prix would provide a suitable finale to the season. Pero will ride the same TZ2SO Yamaha, under the Jacks Yamaha banner, which served him so well in the grand prix last season. He . always rides well at Ruapuna Park, but so, too, does McLachlan. With both men anxious to end on a winning note, the lightweight race could well provide the highlight of the meeting.
If either of them should falter, there will be no shortage of riders ready to take over. One who could shine is Bob McCleary, of Christchurch, who has just taken delivery of the latest TZ2SOG Yamaha. Another likely to be prominent is Glen Rapson, of Hamilton. The lightweight grand prix will be decided over 15 laps.
