Sir, — Peter Skellerup’s admirable appeal (“The Press,” March 25) is testimonial to the lengths he is prepared to speak up where others remain silent. I hope that he encourages other Citizens councillors ■ and joins the Labour councillors in a joint statement of condemnation of all roadwork mutilations and motorways, including the Burwood, Lincoln, Avonside, and St Albans speedways. The beauty of trees, trie security of homes and people who have had undue stress placed upon them by bad decisions and indecision needs more (than advertisments. It needs a stem refusal from local government that revives city democracy in which the individual ratepayer and resident shares in social decisions determining the quality and direction of their lives. —Yours, etc., GRAEME STANLEY. March 25, 1980.
