Training film for unionists
A 4(hminute trade union training film was given its premier showing in Christchurch this week. Believed to be the first of its kind produced in New Zealand, the film was produced by Ms Jane Barrer, a student employed under the auspices of the Canterbury Trades Council’s student employment scheme.
Ms Barrer produced the film with the technical assistance of Mr M. Miller, of the Christchurch Polytechnic.
The film is about a personal grievance case involving a clerical worker, “Kathy”- (Miss Sue Wright), who is dismissed for mislaying two files over a period of two years.
The film portrays the events that transpire from the time she complains to her union about her dismissal to the full hearing of the committee of company and union representatives under a mediator; (Mr M. Teen). The respective company and union advocates are in real life Mr Walsh, per-
