N.Z. squash victory

NZPA London New Zealand’s top squash juniors demolished England in a "tert” match in London yesterday. The New Zealand team, warming up for the World Junior Squash Championships in Sweden, beat England two matches to one, Winning the reserves game as well. “It has put us in good heart for the start of the world championships at the week-end,” said the team’s manager, Mr Neville Munro, after the Wembley series. "It was a very good performance under difficult conditions for the boys. They have just come from a New Zealand summer to the winter here and have acclimatised and adapted very well.” The New Zealand win was spearheaded by the top junior, Stuart Davenport, the 17-year-old Havelock North player, who beat the England No. 1 and team captain, David Thomas (Middlesex), 0-1. 9-1, 9-1, giving him little opportunity to really enter the game. The second-seed, Dean Lovett, aged 18, from Hamilton, had a tougher time to beat Lancashire’s Barry Watkins, 9-7, 5-9, 9-2, 9-3. .
