Suspension for Trevor Thomas

From G. K. YULE Sydney The Belfast trainerdriver, Trevor Thomas, will long remember his three final drives on his current campaign in Sydney. He was suspended from race-driving for 14 days after the Trotters Free-For-All at Fairfield on Monday evening for causing interference to

Merry Hanover on the home turn. Merry Hanover was racing on the outside of Stormy Mom, with Waipounamu further out. Merry Hanover appeared to be beaten, although his driver, Eric Dove, disputed this. Thomas moved Stormy Mom off the rails and the stewards began what developed into a lengthy inquiry.

Robin Butt, the driver of Waipounamu, was also involved as the stewards suggested that his horse had contacted Merry Hanover. This was not confirmed by the film and Butt was cleared. For Thomas it was his first suspension in about 30 years of driving.

Thomas also had a bad night at Harold Park last Friday when he drove Stormy Morn and Canis

Minor. Luck went against him on both occasions. The suspension of Thomas could have the effect of ending the proposed trip to Melbourne for Stormy Morn for a SIO,OOO race at Moonee Valley on Saturday week. A new driver will have to be found for Canis Minor in his consolation race at Harold Park on Friday.
