The grim battle of Lancaster Park
The centre stage on the second day of the A.N.Z. Bank senior cricket final between Old Collegians and Lancaster Park at; Lancaster Park on Saturday was occupied by Robert Wilson (left) and Bevan Congdon (right). ' ■ -Wilson,* better known as Old Collegians opening bowler, began the day on 1, having come to the crease
as a night watchman towards the end of the first day’s play. He batted until 4.15 p.m.—altogether five hours—for 47, which steered his side to an invaluable 123-run lead on the first innings. He is seen turning a ball to the leg side, watched closely by the Park wicket-keener, Graham Kench. The durable Congdon bowled 59 overs in the Old
Collegians innings, which is thought to be a record for Christchurch club cricket. This effort included a marathon 49 overs in succession. He was suitably rewarded with six wickets for 96, and is seen here bowling under the careful scrutiny of the umpire, Mr Doug Wilson. —Photographs by' DES WOODS.
