Cargo service to be extended
NZPA Sydney The Columbus Line has announced that its service between Europe and the South Pacific will be extended to include more island nations. The Hamburg-Sued group, parent company of Columbus Line, started the service from Eruope to the islands in 1968. In recent years the service mainly carried cargoes to the French terri-
tories of Tahiti and New Caledonia. Under ’ the Columbus Line name, the service will now be extended to include Samoa, Fiji, Tonga, the Solomon Islands. and Papua New Guinea. On the southbound leg from Europe, the vessels will use the Panama Canal. The return voyage will be made via the Suez Canal.
