Easter books make pleasing gifts

Easter is more than a week away, so you will have time to look for books about this great Christian festival. Not many stories about Easter are available, but there are some, and of course you will find it in any New Testament Bible story book. The two I am going to tell you about were published last year. They are available in most book shops, and some libraries may have them. The books are not expensive. Either would make a pleasing Easter gift: JESUS IN DANGER. A Ladybird Bible Book, by Jenny Robertson. The story begins with Palm Sunday and ends with Jesus’ betrayal. It is written on pages of different colours.. The stirring events are illustrated with deep feeling. THE FIRST EASTER. Bible Album 5, published by Hodder and Stoughton. A picture story with accompanying texts. Inside the front cover is a map of Jerusalem showing places mentioned in the story, which relates the events from the Jewish Feast Of the Passover to

the Resurrection. At the back are passages . from the new international ver- £ sion of the Bible from ■*’ which the story was * taken. a

CHRISTIAN’S JOURNEY- The story of John S Bunyan’s great classic, .* “Pilgrim’s Progress,” re- § told by Rhoda COuldridge, ’• and illustrated by her daughter, Anna Could- l x ridge. Published by But- .1 terworth Press (1979). Anna was 10 years old ’ when she drew the vivid illustrations on a scroll nearly 10m in length. £ Thirty-one of them (many full-page) are included ’ in the book. On his long adventurous * journey to the Heavenly City, Christian met many strange people and many terrifying creatures.- It was a hard journey because he was carrying a heavy burden of wickedness. As well as lions, dragons, wild beasts and - people who were not help- * ful, he met good friends > like Mr Hopeful and Mr % Faithful, and the good * shepherds tending their •* flocks in the peaceful ' mountains. ■ It is a story for all seasons, and likely to be ? enjoyed by people of all ages. 3
