New fishing vessel adds interest

The installation at Lyttelton of refrigeration equipment aboard the Lane. Walker. Rudkin Industries. Ltd, long-line fishing vessel Cecilia Trosca will provide a healthy boost for local industry, according to the company’s opcrations manager (Mr M. A. Stevens >.

The freezing equipment is being supplied bv Ellis Hardie. Syminton. Ltd. of Christchurch, and Andrews and Beaven, Ltd, are supplying the generator. The installation work at Lyttelton is being done bv the harbour-based firm of Sinclair Melbourne and Company, Ltd. The 251-ton vessel, which will operate out of Timaru, will be in Lyttelton for about 30 days after her arrival last Saturday after a 14,000-mile voyage from Norway which began on December 3L 1979. In Timaru the Cecilia 1 rosea will be operated by Strathallan Fisheries, Ltd, a subsidiary _ of j Lane. Walker, Budkin, Ltd. She is expected to begin fishing in May as a 100 per cent New Zea-land-owned venture.- The refrigeration equipment will allow the vessel to freeze up to 16 tonnes of fish a day while at sea. The 38m vessel will be at sea for as much as 30 days at a time and will be crewed by New Zealand seamen. Most of the catch will be sold to established overseas markets.
