New licensing board for vehicle dealers
PA Wellington Membership of the newly constituted Motor Vehicle Dealers Licensing Board has been announced by the Minister of Justice (Mr McLav). The board will be chaired by Mr J. A. L. Gibson, a Wellington barrister. Mr J. R. Nicholls, the managing director of Ormonds Motors, of Gisborne, and Mr D. M. Cresswell, of Doug Cresswell - Suzuki, of Christchurch, have been appointed on the recommendation of the council of the Motor Vehicle Dealers’ Institute.

Macaulay Motors, of Invercargill, is the first of the Government appointees. The second appointment will be announced soon. All appointments are for three years from April 1. Mr McLay said the board had been constituted under section four of the Motor Vehicle Dealers’ Amendment Act, 1979, which would come into force on April 1. The board would assume the functions previously carried out by the Magistrate’s Court, including the consideration of applications for motor-vehicle dealers’ licences, the renewal of licences and disciplinary responsibilities in respect of dealers.
