Telethon for needy
Twelve telephones will convey requests for sponsors during World Vision’s minitelethon on Wednesdayevening.
The telethon would be run from the Youth for Christ Lounge in Durham Street, said Mrs Marie Frost, a spokesman for the organisers. During the evening, advertisements would be flashed across television screens asking people to telephone to pledge their support. World Vision hoped for 400 new sponsors for needy children overseas. Sponsors pay* $l3 a month. The telethon would also run at Ashburton and Timaru.
The Mayor of Christchurch (Mr H. G. Hay) and other personalities would appear in the telethon.
