Conviction for aiding escape
PA Auckland A nurse 'who admitted helping a man to escape from the Tongariro Prison Farm has been sentenced in the Magistrate’s Court at Auckland to six months periodic detention and put on 18 months probation. / Nicole Elizabeth Greatbatch, aged 21, of Mount Eden, was discharged by Mr N- R- Taylor, S.M., without conviction /on a charge of attempting to procure cannabis, The Magistrate said that he understood from the probation report that if the defendant was convicted on the cannabis charge she would not be allowed to nurse again. The Court heard that Greatbatch went to visit her boyfriend in prison. Later a prison superintendent patrolling for an escaped prisoner saw her stop on the road. Her boyfriend, who had been hiding at the side of the road, got into the car. After a short chase they were caught.
