THE FIFTH DAY

We believe creation proves a creator. We have a choice either to accept what the Scriptures affirm, that there was a "beginning" to creation, and hence a creator; or accept the hypothesis there was no creator, and everything produced itself. We believe creation is the work of God "without Him was not anything made that was made." He only can create. The architect can rear a sky-scraper, the sculptor can cut forms of symmetry and grace from marble, the painter can depict life on his canvas, the engineer can construct engines that can serve the nation, but not one of them can'create. They work with

materials already in existence. The Bible says that life was restored on the fifth day with fish and fowl on the earth. "And God said, let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that has life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God created—every living creature. — And God blessed them, saying, be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth." The signs of animal life appeared in the waters and in the air.—The moving creature —all oviparous animals, both among the finny and the feathery

tribes—remarkable for their rapid and prodigious increase. Fowl—means every flying thing. The word rendered "whales” includes also sharks, crocodiles, etc, so that from the countless shaols of small fish to the great sea monsters, from the tiny insect to the king of birds, the waters and the air were suddenly made to swarm with creatures formed "after their kind" and to live and sport in their respective elements. It is a law of nature that nothing reproduces anything greater than itself. If this is true of all species today, of which we have millions of examples, then it was true originally. The vast creations of matter and life had to come into existance

by a superior power, not an inferior force. One thing is certain, all intelligence and matter could not have come from one or any number of molecules of unintelligence.. The most that has ever been done or can possibly be done is to demonstrate the law of improvement of a species through breeding and cultivation. No new species has been or can be produced by such law. If left alone the plants and animals would degenerate, not improve themselves in any degree. Therefore, we must conclude that no

amount of unintelligent matter could produce intelligence or.. intelligent beings —anything higher than itself. The intelligent and innumerable selfproducing species of creatures, each with its own eternal and consistent traits, distinct flavours, and infinite combinations of chemicals, could never be the product of unintelligent matter. Each one of the millions of creatures that reproduce their own kind by fixed and eternal laws must be the work of an all-powerful and allwise creator.
