Smelter men meet P.M.
PA Wellington Representatives of the; American company, Reynolds Metals, called on the Prime- Minister (Mr Muldoon) yesterday to discuss plans for an aluminium smelter and manufacturing plants in the South Island. The group was led by the managing director of the company (Mr P. Reynolds). Mr Muldoon later said that the company wanted to build plants for manufacturing car parts and
other aluminium products, as well as building a smeN ■ter. • It was prepared to first build the plants and import aluminium until the smelter was operating, said Mr Muldoon. “Whether they come to anything remains to be seen, because we have three other aluminium projects and they cannot all proceed,” he said. Mr Muldoon said that the plants would employ 500 to 600 people.
