The board’s area extends from the Buller Gorge to Awarua Point, south of Haast, and includes some of the most interesting and challenging country in New Zealand. A continuing effort is being made to extend electricity reticulation wherever it is needed. The board operates one diesel and 10 hydro-electric stations generating a high proportion of its power requirements. One additional hydro-electric station is now under construction and work is proceeding on the installation of a second machine at another. The salary offered is in accordance with the range fixed by the Higher Salaries Commission and currently includes an additional allowance of $l2OO per year on account of the responsibility associated with the construction of hydro-electric stations. The successful applicant will participate in a project concerned with the structure, function and metabolism of the proteins of connected tissues of blood vessel walls. It is expected that the appointee will be a science graduate with a sound biochemical knowledge. The position is financed by a grant from the Medical Research Council of New Zealand.
