Subdivision in Cashmere

Development on a new ■bdivision on Dyers Pass oad, just below the Cash.ere Junior Library, may art within a week. . ‘The first stage will mlude the felling of almost 11 the pine trees on pro>osed building sites in the Subdivision. . Reports commissioned by both the developer, the Rhodes Memorial Convalescent Home Board, and the Heathcote County Council say that most of the pines in the reserve are either rotten or near the end of their natural life. Almost half a hectare — about a third of the block to be developed — has been given to the Heathcote County Council for a reserve. The council has commis-

sioned a firm of landscape architects to advise it about the management of the reserve, which trees should be removed, and the need for replanting. The council is -also negodating with the developer to buy one of the sections in the development next to the Cashmere Junior Library which is sited on reserve land. The section would be added to this reserve. No definite starting date for the development could be given because of the recent wet weather but it was hoped to have most import, ant work, such as drainage, completed before the winter, said a partner in the planning firm, Davie, LovellSmith and Partners, engaged' bv the Rhodes home board.
