j Most classes of wool were i dearer when this week’s two-day Christchurch wool sale opened I yesterday, according to the offi- < cial report on the sale by the j Christchurch Woolbrokers’ Asso»ciation in conjunction with the 4 Wool Board and the New Zea4land Woolbuyers’ Association. • Compared with the Titnaru , sale on February 8, Merino, wool was quoted as being on a par • to sellers’ favour, medium and • strong Half bred in sellers’ favour, extra-strong Halfbred up to ’ 2.5 per cent dearer, and Half.bred skirtings and oddments in , sellers’ favour. Compared with . the Auckland sale last week, , fine, medium, and strong cross»bred were quoted up to 2.5 per cent dearer, crossbred second- > shear and skirtings were in ■ sellers’ favour, and crossbred > lambs’ wool was firm. > Competition was general. The > Wool Board gave limited support • to the market by bidding on ■lO9O bales, or 5.1 per cent of ; the offering, and had 91 bales, I or 0.4 per cent of the offering, . sold or passed to it. The offering of 21,389 bales from two brokers was drawn . mainly from the Canterbury i plains’ but there was also a good ' representation of Marlborough wool and smaller quantities ; from Nelson and the West ’ Coast. The selection was fairly typical for a February sale, with most fleece wools being well grown but with discolora- ' tion evident, particularly among the crossbreds.
