Revolutionary plan for Salvador
NZPA-Reuter San Salvador Left-wing organisations fighting for power in this troubled central American nation of El Salvador have announced a programme for a revolutionary government after a further day of violence in which at least 22 people were killed. The four political groupings, whose guerrillas are engaged in virtual civil war with security forces and Right-wing extremists, set out a joint political plan calling for an independent Marxist-type State.
The two groups leading the self-styled Revolutionary Co-ordinating Committee — the Popular Revolutionary Bloc and the Popular League of February 28 — also said their leaders had disappeared, apparently abducted by their opponents. Their plan, announced at a press conference, included the dissolution of the armed forces, extensive nationalisation, sharply reduced ties with the United States, and the establishment of a “revolutionary democratic government.”
