Croft for the dock?
PA Wellington A Southland man says that he intends privately charging the West Indian cricketer, Colin Croft, with assault on umpire Mr Fred Goodall after the incident during play in the second cricket test.
Television replays of the incident showed that fast bowler Croft appeared to crash deliberately into Mr Goodall as he bowled to New Zealand batsman, Richard Hadlee. Mr George Bernard Freeman,
a 48-year-old landscape gardener who lives at Colac Bay, near Riverton, said yesterday that he was in the process of drawing up a charge to be sworn in front of a Justice of the Peace.
He would send the charge by courier for filing in the Christchurch Magistrate's Court, Mr Freeman said. The charge would be laid under section 193 of the Crimes Act. It would be a charge of assault with intent to injure, which carried a maximum penalty of three years’ jail, he said.
