Tours at stake
PA Auckland A decision has to be made soon on whether to cancel or continue with tours for New Zealanders to the Moscow Olympic Games, says Air New Zealand's tour sales controller (Mr D. Webb). The chairman of the New Zealand Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (Mr Lance Cross) would return from overseas later this week and a - decision was expected then, he said. The tours for 580 New Zealanders booked for the
Games were still on, but Mr Cross’s opinions after attending the Winter Olympics at Lake Placid and International Olympic Committee meetings were considered vital. The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the United States Government’s Games boycott, and talk about transferring the Games to other countries had caused concern about the tours. “We owe it to all those who have booked and paid for their tours to make a decision soon,” Mr Webb said.
