Sharmbro to race in U.S.

Sharmbro and the slowclass trotter, Ponderosa Ginge, have been purchased by Central Standardbred Agency, Auckland, and they are due to travel on to the United States early next week. Sharmbro graduated to open class as a trotter when trained at Rangiora by Frank Murfitt, He joined Jack Smolenski’s team this season and was converted to the pacing gait, at which he will race in North America. His best effort in few starts as a pacer was a third behind Mary Isabel and Timely Robin at the end of a fast-run 2000 m at Addington on January 7. Ponderosa Ginge, a good fourth behind Game Way at Addington after receiving a poor run last Saturday, won three races from Max Miller’s Methven team. He has become more solid this season and should prove a success in slow-class events for his new owners.
