Good news for N.Z. lamb
There was good news for New Zealand lamb in. the United Kingdom last week, according to the New Zealand Meat Producers Board; The United Kingdom wholesale market continued to respond to growing demand and thr ealisation that New Zealand lamb had been undervalued, it said. Prices for PL and PM grades increased by up to 2p a lb. There had been a gradual improvement in retail offtake in some regions and, providing this trend was sustained, further strengthening in the wholesale prices would be expected. Prices for New Zealand
lamb sold at Smithfield last week were:— Price Var’n P P per lb per lb PL .. .. 52.0-53.5 +1.25 PM ■ • ■ 50.0-51.0 +l.OO Manufacturing beef There was a brighter tone in the United States imported beef market last week with cow beef selling at prices averaging U.S. 132 c a lb on a c.i.f. basis, up 3c from the previous week. End-users continued to show little interest and most of the activity had been on a trade-to-trader basis. Mutton Small sales of both New Zealand and Australian mutton were reported in Japan.
