Gaps in suburban teams
The first day of round nine of the Christ-chUTCh SuburbanCricket Association’s senior competition was played on Saturday in hot, windy conditions. With the senior representative side away at Rangiora playing North Canterbury, most teaips were affected by the absence of top players.; At Garrick Park, Woolston WMC put up a good showing against the leaders, Sumner. Declaring at 180 for six, Woolston at stumps had taken two of Sumner’s wickets for 45 runs. Templeton proved a happy hunting ground for Harewood when it amassed 202 for nine declared. When stumps were drawn, Hornby had struggled to 51 for three. Batting first, Hoon Hay scored 186 for nine declared. MerivalePapanui in reply was nicely placed at 112 for three. Nook Ebert had a good double of 56 and four for 43. Southern Districts did well to dismiss Upper Riccarton for 112 and then in reply at stumps be 85 for four wickets.
